The Domain of Usseglio - Châteauneuf du Pape, an exceptional appellation. |
| |
Expertise and philosophy of the domain - The vineyard |
| |
The vineyard of USSEGLIO Raymond & Sons currently spreads on 21 hectares, out of which 16 ha are in Châteauneuf du Pape and 5 ha in Cotes du Rhône. |
At the domain of USSEGLIO Raymond, we think that a great wine must be made with beautiful grapes, that are rich, concentrated, and balanced. |
This is why we respect our soil and our environment with environment-friendly production methods: we limit at the maximum the interventions thanks to a close observation of the vines and also to our climate which is dry and windy. |
The argilo-calcareous subsoil of the domain |
| |
We carefully work our vineyard with various ploughings, de-budding, thinning-out of the leaves, and “green harvesting”, and so on…) according to the climatic natures of the vintage and to the various terroirs. |

View of the Domain of Usseglio |
| |
The Domain of USSEGLIO Raymond has a lot of small plots of land – more than thirty – where the exposure, the microclimate, the grape variety and the nature of the soil are different. |
| |
The imperial reserve stems from hundred-year-old vines which were planted in 1901-1902 |
This multiplicity of soils adds a lot of complexity to the different wines of the domain: the cobblestones create flavoured, fat, and heady wines whereas the sandy soils bring elegance, fineness, and depth to the different Châteauneuf du Pape wines.
The age of the vines is also preponderant for the quality and the concentrationof the grapes. The domain of USSEGLIO Raymond is about 40 years old for the Tradition wines of Châteauneuf du Pape, and the imperial reserve stems from hundred-year-old vines which were planted in 1901-1902. |
All the agricultural work is hence organised to obtain the best grape maturity and concentration. They are picked by hand and carefully sorted before their arrival in the cellar. |
