Domaine Raymond Usseglio & fils - Châteauneuf du Pape

The Domain of Usseglio - Châteauneuf du Pape, an exceptional appellation.

Expertise and philosophy of the domain - Grape varieties

The variety of grape varieties is also an interesting parameter in the domain of USSEGLIO Raymond
The Châteauneuf du Pape permits 13 different varieties of grapes : 8 red grapes and 5 white ones, but the blend is usually predominantly Grenache, either white or black. It is our “starring wine”, certainely the most complex, balanced, and wonderfully adapted to our soils and our climate.
All the other grape varieties are of course present at the domain of USSEGLIO Raymond, especially in the old vineyards where the 13 grape varieties are represented. For our traditional vintages, we have 15% of Syrah and 15 % of Mourvèdre for the red, 20 % of Roussane, 20% of Clairette and 20 % of Bourboulenc for the white.

The Grenache, our "starring wine"

The other different grape varieties are present in small doses in the wines of Châteauneuf du Pape (2,5% of Cinsault, 2,5% of Counoise, 1% of Muscardin, 0,5% of Picardan, 0,5% of Vaccarèse and so on…).
Of course, they contribute to the complexity and fineness of the wines of the Domain USSEGLIO Raymond. It is a little bit like in cooking with salt, pepper, or spices.
